If you’re worried about how your kids will act during a photo session, you’re not alone.
Honestly, some of my favourite sessions start a little messy. Kids are unsure, running around, not super interested in the camera, and that’s okay! I don’t expect kids to show up smiling on cue or sitting still. During my sessions, I focus on connection, not perfection.
I really want parents to relax, go with the flow, and focus on having fun with their kids! The more you can let go of how you think things should look, the better it feels for everyone. We’re not just taking photos, we’re creating an experience you can look back on.
We take our time. We move. We hang out. I let kids be kids and follow their lead instead of trying to control the moment. When there’s less pressure, kids relax. And when they relax, the photos come naturally.
Of course, it’s always nice to have a few photos where everyone is smiling at the camera, those are great to have. But the ones families usually love the most? The candid moments. The laughs, the hugs, the in between stuff that feels real!
Some sessions are loud, some are quiet, some take a bit longer to warm up. None of that is a problem. That’s just real life, and that’s what I love photographing.
If you’re looking for family photos that feel natural and true to your people, that’s exactly what I aim for :)
